Notice:--
The machine gun company will report for drill in Upper Massachusetts this morning at 7.30.
Memorandum:--
In accordance with the provisions of Paragraph 1, Memorandum of March 3, 1917, rifles are assigned as follows, the numbers corresponding on both gun stocks and gun racks: 1. The companies of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps will, after forming at the time and places regularly appointed for drill, be marched on Monday, March 5, 1917, to the Armory (basement of Persis Smith Hall). Upon arrival at the Armory, companies will take the rifles assigned to them and march back to their drill halls where the rifles will be placed in their proper racks, the numbers of which correspond to the numbers pasted upon the gun stocks. Extra rifles will be carried by the cadets of each company so as to transfer the prescribed number to the racks provided for each company in the respective drill halls. 2. Company commanders will assign a rifle by number to each cadet. A receipt will be taken at the time for the rifle issued each individual, and forwarded to the Commandant's Office by the company commanders. 3. Each cadet will be held personally responsible for the care and preservation of his rifle. Paragraph 292, Army Regulations.* A light gun oil, such as "3 in 1," etc., will be used on all metal parts of the rifle--cadets will leave a thin film of such oil on their rifles at all times. The oilers in the rifle will be kept filled with light gun oil. This oil can be obtained from the Armorer, Persis Smith Hall. 4. The cosmoline oil, now in the barrel of the rifle, will not be removed until instructions are issued by the Commandant for such removal. 5. The Supply Sergeant of each company will obtain the keys for the arm racks of his company from the Commandant's Office, in time each day for the regular formation of his company. He will unlock the racks so as to permit the cadets to take therefrom their rifles. He will personally superintend the removal and replacing of the rifles. He will lock the arm racks and return the keys to the Commandant's Office after each drill. If, when the arm racks are locked, any rifle is missing, the fact will be immediately reported. 6. No rifle will be removed from the drill halls without the express permission of the Commandant or Assistant Commandant. C. CORDIER, Captain, U. S. Army, Commandant. *Omitted through lack of space.
