General Orders No. 2.

UNIFORM REGULATIONS.

1. The following are the regulations for the uniform of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps. They will be strictly observed, and no article of dress other than the prescribed uniform for tactical instructors, other instructors with relative rank, aides and cadets will be worn.

2. Uniform to be worn and table of occasions: Occasions: Class-room (Sections), Lectures, Drills, and other formations. By whom worn: Tactical instructors, other instructors with relative rank, aides and all cadets. Articles: Service Uniform: 1. Service cap. 2. Service coat (OD Wool). 3. Service breeches (O.D.W.). 4. Russet leather shoes. 5. Leggings (for tactical instructors, other instructors with relative rank, aides and cadet captains: russet leather or pig skin. For all cadets other than cadet captains: canvas, as issued). 6. Olive drab shirt. (When not under arms, or on other duty involving physical exertion a plain white standing collar may be worn). 7. Poncho during inclement weather only. 8. Sabres will be worn by tactical instructors at formations under arms.

3. Uniforms will not be worn outside of Cambridge except on duty connected with the R.O.T.C., unless specially authorized.

4. Badges, medals, and ornaments. (a) No badges, medals or ornaments except those prescribed in General Orders 49 (1916) of the War Department will be worn. (b) The distinctive badge for the Reserve Officers' Training Corps is worn on the upper part of the left forearm of both the service coat and the olive drab shirt. The design is embroidered in blue on olive drab cloth of the shape and dimensions prescribed by the War Department. This badge will be worn by all members of the Corps. (c) The cap ornament is a bronze wreath with the letters R.O.T.C. in center. (d) The collar ornament for coat is a bronze device R.O.T.C. worn, on each side, one inch from edge of collar. (e) Badges and modals which have been awarded in the service of the United States may be worn, bite no other.

5. Insignia of Pornik (a) Ne insignia of rank except these prescribes by General. Orders of (1916 of the War Department will be worn, by Insignia of rank will be of gift for tactical investors other instructors with relative rank and aides, white metal for all cadet officers. These insignia in the shape of circular flat disks for lieutenants and captains and flat diamond shape for majors will be worn on the shoulder straps of the coat as follows: 2nd lieutenant, one disk on each shoulder strap; 1st lieutenant, two disks on each shoulder strap; Captain, three disks on each shoulder strap; Major, one diamond on each shoulder strap. (c) Non-commissioned officers will wear the service chevrons prescribed for like grades in the Army.

6. This order will be published for the information of all instructors, aides and cadets at the first formation following the dates of its issue.   WM. F. FLYNN,   Major, U. S. Army,   Commandant.   October 5. 1917.

General Orders No. 3.

1. B. W. Thoron is herewith appointed a battalion sergeant-major in this Regiment and assigned to the 1st battalion.

2. F. B. Lothrop is herewith appointed a battalion sergeant-major in this Regiment and assigned to the 2nd battalion.

3. E. L. Bigelow is herewith appointed a battalion sergeant-major in this Regiment and assigned to the third battalion.

General Orders No. 4.

HONORS AND SALUTES.

1. The Commandant, the officers of the French Military Mission, Reserve Officers detailed to duty with the Reserve Officers' Training Corps, tactical instructors, other instructors with relative rank, aides, and all cadet officers (captains and lieutenants) will be accorded when in uniform the courtesies prescribed in paragraphs 758-765, Infantry Drill Regulations. Cadet non-commissioned officers (sergeants and corporals) are not saluted except as prescribed in paragraph 172, Infantry Drill Regulations, or in formations where the non-commissioned officer receives reports for the officer in charge. All cadets should, however, stand at attention when addressed by or addressing a non-commissioned officer in uniform.

2. The Governor of the Commonwealth and the President of the University will be accorded the same courtesies as the Commandant. Regular and Reserve Officers of the United States military and naval forces when in uniform will be accorded the same courtesies as tactical instructors.

3. At all lectures and section meetings in Military Science, members of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps will rise and stand at "attention" on the entrance of the lecturer or instructor.

4. At all formations in ranks, except when actually receiving instruction, cadets will be brought to "attention" by the cadet officer or non-commissioned officer in charge on the approach of the Commandant or a tactical instructor.

5. This order will be published for the information of all cadets at the first formation following the date of its issue.   WM. F. FLYNN,   Major, U. S. Army,   Commandant.

Memorandum.

Members of the R.O.T.C. who desire to have typhoid innoculation should apply at Weld 4 between 1.30 and 4.00 p.m. on any day except Saturday.   R. G. FULLER,   Adjutant.

Memorandum.

1. Buttons will be worn by all members of the Regiment until they receive their uniforms.

2. After Saturday, October 6, no transfers from companies will be made at Headquarters. Such transfers will go through regular military channels and be made to the 1st sergeant of the company.

3. Every man who has not been assigned to a company and who has not already reported this fact at Headquarters must do so Saturday, October 6.
