The University fencing team defeated Yale by the score of 6 to 3 and Bowdoin by the score of 9 to 0, while Yale defeated Bowdoin 7 to 2, in the preliminaries of the intercollegiate fencing championships held at the Harvard Club of Boston last Saturday evening. The University fencers were unquestionably masters of the situation throughout. Captain W. H. Russell '18 lost but a single bout, and that to Captain R. P. Pflieger of Yale; G. H. Code '18 won four of his five bouts; E. P. Hamilton '18 also made an excellent showing, winning four of his events. The only Yale fencer to win from the University was Captain Pfleiger, who took all three of his bouts.
The general progress of the team since the meet with Yale is very encouraging, and the outlook for the intercollegiate championship finals in New York on April 21 exceedingly hopeful.

Hanson, 11 to 10; G. H. Code '18 defeated S. L. Hanson, 8 to 5; Capt. W. H. Russell '18 defeated Capt. H. L. Hargraves, 8 to 4; E. P. Hamilton '18 defeated Mooers, 9 to 6; G. H. Code '18 defeated Capt. H. L. Hargraves, 9 to 3; Capt. W. H. Russell '18 defeated S. L. Hanson, 6 to 0; E. P. Hamilton '18 defeated Capt. H. L. Hargraves, 12 to 6. Score: Harvard 9, Bowdoin 0.
