FENCING TEAM TO MEET YALE

UNIVERSITY'S RIVALS IN TODAY'S MATCH UNDEFEATED THIS SEASON.

The undefeated Yale fencing team will meet the University quartet in Hemenway Gymnasium this afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Yale entries will be Captain Pflieger, Icaza, and Downey. Captain W. H. Russell '18, E. P. Hamilton '18, G. H. Code '18, and L. Chauvenet '18 will fence for the University. Free tickets for the match may be obtained from any member of the team.

Yale has had an extraordinarily successful season, winning seven dual meets in succession, twice from Columbia and Pennsylvania, and once from Springfield Training School, Bowdoin, and New York City College. This remarkable series, of victories is in part accounted for by the fact that all the Yale fencers are experienced veterans in the use of the foil.

On the other hand, the University fencers are all Sophomores, and, although Captain Russell and, in particular, E. P. Hamilton are notably brilliant contes- tants, the University has won but one match, having defeated Bowdoin, 5 to 4, early in the season. The two following meets with Pennsylvania and Annapolis were lost 5 to 4 and 8 to 1. The worth of Captain Russell, however, as an individual star, is indicated by his winning the championship title of the Amateur Fencing League of America at the Boston Sword Club on February 15. Russell has been handicapped throughout the season by illness
