The Pierian Sodality will hold its first Annual Mid-Year Concert in the John Knowles Paine Hall of the New Music Building this evening at 8 o'clock. This concert will take the place of the Mid-Winter Pop Concert which has always been given in the Union; and was open to its members only. This year the officers have arranged to have the concert open to all members of the University free of charge.
This will be the first opportunity to hear the work of the orchestra with Eugene Modest Alloo, of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, who has been engaged to direct the Pierian, as conductor. Under his charge the Pierian has greatly increased its ability.
The program, which was given in Worcester on December 6, proved so popular that a large portion of it will be repeated for this concert. It includes some of the works of the masters as well as some of contemporary writers. Thus a balance has been struck between the heavy and the light themes.
