OPEN PLACES ON CRIMSON BOARD

Business Competition Starts Tonight.--New Call for Other Candidates.

One more Sophomore will be admitted to the CRIMSON staff as business editor, following a competition commencing at the CRIMSON office, 14 Plympton street, tonight at 7 o'clock. This competition is an innovation this year and offers Sophomores a notable opportunity. At the same time there will be a meeting of Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen in response to the issuance of a second and last call for candidates for editorial and news positions. This is the final chance afforded Juniors to make the staff of the CRIMSON. Their competition will consist in the writing of editorials. Likewise Sophomores are given their last opportunity to be elected news editors. Freshmen who report for the news competition will not find that they are handicapped by the delay.

The new 1918 business competition offers advantages to the candidate that it would be difficult to duplicate in any other college activity. Contact with big-business interests in Boston and New York is constant by necessity. There is also much valuable knowledge of the financing and distribution of the publication to be gained. Perhaps the greatest asset the candidate acquires is a host of business acquaintances who may well prove of value in later years. The extra business editor from 1918 is a necessary result of the enlargement and reorganization of the business staff to meet the demands of the new quarters. Changes have minimized the individual work of each candidate, and each is closely supervised by the business manager. Closer co-operation has now come into play and the manager has been made free to look after the candidates alone. Many accounts are assigned and the work so systematized that there will be almost no clerical work, the chief duty of candidates being to solicit advertisements. The elected business editor will become assistant business manager in his Junior year and will then compete with the other two assistants for the business managership.
