S. Thayer, of Andover, won the Harvard Interscholastic Tennis title yesterday, defeating R. Rand, of St. Mark's, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, in one of the most exciting matches ever played on the University courts. Both players exhibited tennis of sterling quality and did much brilliant work, and the last set in particular was marked by a struggle for every point. As winner of the tournament, Thayer will have the right to play at New York in August for the Interscholastic Championship of the United States.
In the semi-final round Rand defeated C. H. Beasley, of Stearns, 6-8, 8-6, 6-0.
Andover has already won the championship shield, and yesterday increased her total to 14 points. Exeter took second place with 8 points.
