FIRST HOCKEY GAME TONIGHT

UNIVERSITY SEVEN WILL OPPOSE B. A. A. IN OPENING CONTEST OF SEASON.

HARVARD.  B. A. A. Rice, l.w.  r.w., Jones Curtis, l.c.  r.c., Osgood Percy, r.c.  l.c., Hutchinson Thacher, r.w.  l.w., Clifford Morgan, c.p.  c.p., Skilton Doty, p.  p., Huntington Wylde, g.  g., Donahue

The University hockey team meets the B. A. A. seven in the first game of the season in the Arena this evening at 8.15 o'clock. The B. A. A. will send its usual experienced team on the ice, and both sevens will present a trio of backs of exceptional ability; the University in the veterans Wylde, Doty and Captain Morgan, and the B. A. A. in Skilton, one of the greatest hockey players in Boston, Huntington, who was University captain in 1912, and Donahue, the ex-Dartmouth star.

In the forward line, the University players are not as experienced, or, with the exception of Percy, as fast as the B. A. A. offense. Coach Winsor, on the other hand, has drilled his quartet to better team work than that of the B. A. A. seven, who depend too much on the individual brilliancy of Skilton, Huntington, and Osgood. Curtis, who is filling Baldwin's place at left centre, and Percy, should be able to uphold the centre of the line against Osgood and Hutchinson. Thacher and Rice are fast men and handle their sticks fairly well, but they are not as experienced as the B. A. A. wings, Jones and Clifford. The University and the B. A. A. have had two practice scrimmages together, each team winning once, and they will line up on even terms tonight.

Teams A and B scrimmaged for a few minutes yesterday afternoon, team A winning by the score of 1 to 0, with Curtis the chief factor in the offense. Then Coach Winsor sent them up and down the rink three times at full speed, and devoted the rest of the time to the lower teams. There is not much material below the first sevens, although Ginn played well yesterday afternoon, and Weld made some exceptionally good stops at goal. Coach Winsor made a cut in the squad last night, and the 30 men who are retained will practice on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and will probably be called back to renew practice on December 30.
