The University hockey team will line up against the strong Yale seven in the Arena this evening at 8.15 o'clock. The outcome of the match may be an important factor in determining the intercollegiate championship. Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth have all defeated last year's champions, Princeton, this season, and Dartmouth has defeated the University. If Yale wins the contest tonight, the title will lie between it and the seven from Hanover. On the other hand, if the University comes through triumphant in the series with Yale, and the latter team wins its contest from Dartmouth, a three-cornered tie for the title will ensue.
The odds on tonight's game slightly favor the New Haven team on account of its early season record. The University seven, however, has been steadily improving in stick-work and team-play and like all Winsor coached sevens is bound to reach the apex of its development when the important contests arrive. The University defense with Captain Claflin, Morgan, and Wylde is probably the strongest in the college ranks today. In the forward line, the two center men, Phillips and Townsend, are the life of the attack, but it is doubtful if they form a stronger combination than Captain Sweeney and Dickey of the Elis. The wings are the weak point of the University seven, neither Cunningham, Curtis, Wanamaker or Baldwin being strictly first-class calibre. The Yale wings, MacDonald and Murray, are both fast aggressive players, and it is here that the University team is clearly over-balanced.
The teams will probably line up as follows: Two Games Added to Schedule. Two games have been added to the schedule of the University hockey team. These contests are with Williams on February 8 and with St. Nicholas on February 12, both at the Arena. At the Eatter match, "Hobey" Baker will make this second and last appearance in Boston this season, while W. P. Willetts '14 and G. M. Carnochan '14 of last year's team will hold down positions at point and goal respectively for the visitors. Applications for tickets for this game may be filed at the H. A. A. office any time before 6 o'clock on Monday, February 8. Next week will be Ice Carnival week at the Boston Arena, and popular prices will prevail for all hockey games. Tickets for the University contests with M. A. C. and McGill may be procured at 50 cents each at the Arena.
