The University second baseball team will play the Yale seconds on the Freshman diamond at Soldiers Field this afternoon at 3.30 o'clock. The contest which has been moved up one day earlier on the second team schedule, is the last of the season.
The seconds have played good ball this season, although the squad has been woefully lacking in hitters. The team is still weak at the bat and a fairly effective offence is the best that can be hoped for against Yale today. Devereux, Edgerton, Mason and Phillips are the only men who have hit with anything like consistency.
At fielding, Harvard is perhaps a little better than the Blue nine. Captain Phillips at third base is playing the best game of the Crimson infielders, and Edgerton, Harvey, and O'Day complete a very capable inner defence. In the outfield Devereux and Coolidge are playing an excellent fielding game.
The Yale second team has had a rather unsuccessful season, having lost to the Princeton scrubs, Hill School, and Hotchkiss; and their sole victory being over Andover.
The outcome of the contest will probably depend on the pitchers. Harvard's hope will rest with Whitney, Macdonald, Cunningham or Fitzgibbons. Whitney, in all probability, will start.
