ATHLETES AND THE NEWSPAPERS.

The recent ruling of the Committee on the Regulation of Athletic Sports clearly purposes to eradicate the practice sometimes indulged in by prominent athletes, of renting their names to the sporting columns of newspapers. To many this practice savors of professionalism while to others it appreciably lowers their estimation of sportsmanship as inculcated in the phrase "sport for sport's sake." The new rule will do away with any abuses without interfering with legitimate newspaper correspondence by men engaged in athletics.
