Next Friday, May 1, is the last day for receiving essays, dissertations, and compositions for eleven different prizes, applications of candidates for the degree of M.D. or the degree of D.M.D. in 1914, for the Bullard Fellowships, and for the Medical School Scholarships for 1914-15 (except the Cheever and Hayden Scholarships). Notice of intention to compete for the Sales and the Jeremy Belknap Prizes, theses of candidates for the degree of Ph.D. in 1914, except in the Divisions of Ancient Languages, of Modern Languages, and of History, Government, and Economics, and Commencement Parts from undergraduates and graduate students, must all be received on or before this date.

Following are the eleven prizes and conditions of award in each case:

There are three Susan Anthony Potter Prizes; one of $100 will be given for the best thesis by a student (graduate or undergraduate) in Harvard University or Radcliffe College, on any subject in the field of Comparative Literature approved by the Chairman of the Department. The other, of the value of $50, will be given for the best essay by an undergraduate in Harvard College on a subject in the field of Comparative Literature concerning the Middle Ages or the Renaissance. Theses or essays should be sent to Professor W. H. Schofield. A third prize of $75 is offered for the best essay on a subject dealing with the Spanish literature of the Golden Age. The competition is open to all undergraduates. Manuscripts must be delivered at the office of the Secretary of the Faculty, University 20, addressed to Professor J. D. M. Ford.

The Dante Society offers an annual prize of $100 for the best essay by a student in any department of the University, or by a graduate of not more than three years' standing, on a subject drawn from the life or works of Dante.

The Sumner Prize of $100 will be awarded for the best dissertation on a subject connected with the topic of Universal Peace and the methods by which War may be permanently superseded. This prize is open to any student of the University in any of its departments.

For the best essay in English prose on some subject of American governmental, domestic, or foreign policy of contemporaneous interest, the Bennett Prize of $75 will be awarded to a member of the Senior Class of Harvard College or to a special student in the third or fourth year who has taken courses in Political Science and English Literature.

The Sargent Prize of $100 is offered for the best metrical translation of the twenty-fourth ode of the first book of Horace. Undergraduates of Harvard College and of Radcliffe College may compete for this prize. Manuscripts for the Dante, Sumner, Bennett and Sargent Prizes must be delivered at the office of the Secretary of the Faculty.

All members of the University may compete for the George Arthur Knight Prize of $30, offered for the best composition in instrumental music. Manuscripts must be left with the Chairman of the Division of Music.

The Sales Prize of $45 is offered to the best scholar in Spanish, who has commenced the study of that language at Harvard, and whose scholarship shall be determined by his proficiency in Spanish composition.

For 1913-14 the Jeremy Belknap Prize of $50 is offered for the best French composition written by a first-year student in Harvard College. The competition is open to men who have passed the advanced French examination for admission; or have done satisfactory work in a three years' course in French at school. Notice of intention to compete for the Sales and Jeremy Belknap Prizes must be sent to the Recorder.

The Toppan Prize of $150 is offered for the best essay on a subject in Political Science. The competition is open to all students of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences or of any of the professional schools who have received an academic degree, and to all graduates of Harvard College of not more than three years' standing. Manuscripts must be delivered at the office of the Secretary of the Faculty.
