The Pierian Sodality will play a Haydn Symphony in C-Major, entitled "Le Midi," for the first time in America as the special feature of the annual spring concert in Sanders Theatre next Wednesday evening.
This composition was written at Eisenstadt in 1761 while Haydn was Kapellmeister under the patronage of the Prince of Esterhazy. It is the oldest autograph score by the composer in existence and lay hidden for many years after its conception. It was revived a few years ago by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Nikisch.
The symphony is in three movements, in the first of which a Recitative for a solo violin is incorporated. This is followed by a Minuet and Finale.
A. F. Pickernell '14 will be the soloist.
