ON THE DEBATE.

Along with everybody else, to the team that won, we extend our congratulations, and to the team that lost, our sympathy; to every man who worked to make the season a success, our appreciation for doing his best. Debating has won its place among the truly strenuous diversions, and as feeling is proportionate to the intensity of the effort, a defeat and a victory bring a mingling of the bitterest and the sweetest. We should not grieve too much for a championship that might have been: if this year's efforts have failed to bring us more than divided honors, they have at least accomplished a revival of general interest in the sport.
