The first trials for the University debating teams will be held in Harvard 5 and 6 this evening at 7 o'clock. These trials are open to all members of the University. Candidates will deliver five-minute speeches on either side of the question, "Resolved, that the women of the United States should be given the suffrage on equal terms with men." This will also be the subject of the semi-final and final debates.
Eighteen or twenty men will be retained for the second trial in Emerson D on Friday night. At that time there will be ten-minute speeches and twelve men will be retained. At the final debate on February 28 six men and three alternates will be chosen to compete with Yale and Princeton. After the final trials the annual Coolidge prize of $100 will be awarded the best undergraduate speaker. The judges for this series of debates are: A. P. Stone '93, D. C. Howard 3L., C. E. Dunbar 3L., C. W. Chenoweth.
