JEFFERSON FIRE NOT SERIOUS

Lively Blaze, Caused by Student's Neglect, Easily Extinguished.

A small fire in one of the Physics 3 laboratory rooms of the Jefferson Physical Laboratory startled members of the staff shortly after 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon. An alarm was sounded, but the staff managed practically to extinguish the blaze before the arrival of the apparatus. The fire started as the result of a closed switch left by a negligent student Tuesday night. The switch was under a wooden box and when an unusually strong current was passed through the system yesterday morning the box overheated and ignited.

The damage was slight, only one valuable piece of apparatus being destroyed. Several other instruments, however, were injured.
