A house-warming at which President Eliot will speak, on March 4, at 8 o'clock, will be the formal opening of the new club-room of the Federation of Territorial Clubs in the Union.
According to the final plans agreed on at the meeting of the executive council, last week, arrangements are being made to entertain about 900 men, at the house-warming, all members of territorial clubs belonging to the Federation being invited. Notices are being sent to the secretaries of the associated clubs asking each to have all members present, so that this initial public gathering of the Federation may be successful.
President Eliot, chief speaker for the occasion, will deliver an address in the Living Room of the Union at 8 o'clock. Following his talk, a reception, at which punch will be served, will be held in the newly furnished club rooms on the second floor of the Union. The address by President Eliot will be open to all members of the Union as well as members of the associated territorial clubs, but the reception is to be only for members of the Federation.
This house-warming is part of a general scheme to increase active interest in the new Federation. In addition to making efforts to organize clubs from unrepresented districts of the country, the executive council is offering the use of the room for meeting and entertainments of the several clubs.
As the term of office of the present members of the executive council has expired, new representatives of the several clubs are being chosen to serve on the council until March, 1914. Special efforts are being made to interest men in territorial club work, and especially in the work of the executive body. In this way, it is hoped that the club will be able to have a much more effective influence by stimulating interest in the University throughout the country.
