The Modern Language Association of America will hold its thirty-first annual meeting in conjunction with the American Philological Association under the auspices of Harvard University on December 29, 30 and 31. All sessions of both Associations will be held in Emerson Hall. During the first session of the Modern Language Association, at 2.30 o'clock on Monday, December 29, there will be reports by the Secretary and Treasurer, followed by the reading and discussion of several papers. At eight o'clock that evening the Associations will assemble in Emerson D where they will be welcomed to the University by Professor G. H. Palmer in the name of President Lowell. Later in the evening the meeting will adjourn to the Union where the Associations will be received by Professor and Mrs. G. L. Kittredge and Professor and Mrs. H. W. Smyth.
The second session, consisting of the report of the Trustees and the reading and discussion of several other papers, will be held on the morning of December 30, at 9.30 in Emerson D. At 10 o'clock the members and guests of the two Associations will be entertained at luncheon by the President and Fellows of the College in the Union. The third session will be a joint one on the afternoon of Dec. 30 in Emerson D. Papers will be read and discussed. After this session the ladies in attendance will be received by Mrs. H. W. Smyth at her house, 15 Elwood avenue. The gentlemen will adjourn to a smoker at the Harvard Club.
On Wednesday, December 31, at 9.30 o'clock in the morning and at 2.30 o'clock in the afternoon the fourth session will take place. Reports from several committees will be read and the election of officers for 1914 will be held, followed by the reading and discussion of papers.
The chairman of the Local Committee for this year is Professor W. A. Neilson '99 and the President of the Association is Professor A. R. Hohlfeld of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin. The privileges of the Union and the Colonial Clubs of Cambridge and of the University and Harvard Clubs of Boston are extended to ladies and gentlemen attending the convention.
