Dean E. R. Thayer '88, of the Law School, has been appointed by Governor Foss as associate justice of the Supreme Court of the state to succeed Judge J. M. Morton, resigned. This appointment will go over for one week for action by the Council. Concerning this nomination, Dean Thayer made the following statement yesterday to the CRIMSON representative.
"I regret that the Governor should have sent in my name because I have already told him that my duties at the Law School would make it impossible for me to occupy the position."
Mr. Thayer has been very prominent in legal matters of both state and nation. He is an authority on "Evidence" and "Torts," and he has lectured on "Massachusetts Practice." For about seventeen years he has been a member of the council of the Boston Bar Association, and he is also prominent as a member of the American Bar Association.
