The triangular boat race with Cornell and Princeton will be held over the mile and seven-eighths course down-stream in the Basin this afternoon at 4 o'clock. The best points from which to see the race will be Harvard Bridge, and the esplanade along the last half-mile of the course.
The University eight has been in a somewhat unsettled condition all spring. In the first few weeks on the water the crew did not show the improvement that was expected. Chanler was taken from stroke in the University boat and put in that position on the second, changing places with Eager. Just two weeks ago Newton was taken from his position at 5 in the waist of the boat and put at stroke; steady improvement has resulted, especially in that fundamental quality of catching and finishing. At present, however, the crew does not seem quite up to the standard of the several past years, but has the advantage of being in a condition of constant improvement.
Princeton last week finished a close second to Columbia in a triangular race, beating Pennsylvania by a half-length.
Cornell has not been in competition this year, but is reported to have a crew well up to the standard set by Courtney.

Freshman Race With Cornell.
Immediately after the University crew race this afternoon the Freshman eight will race the Cornell freshman downstream over the same course. This will be the fourth annual race between the crews, Cornell having won the three previous races.
The Freshman eight started the season with very bright prospects, but has been considerably upset by illness. About three weeks ago Parkman, who was rowing very well at number 7 was found to have a weak heart; Harwood, 6, and Francke were disabled the following week. As a result, the development of the crew has been not only retarded but set back somewhat. The eight, however, is probably up to the usual standard.
The orders:
Harvard Freshman crew -- Stroke, Pirnie; 7, Meyer; 6, Weatherhead; 5, Trumbull; 4, MacVicar; 3, Murray; 2, Apollonio; bow, Storrow; cox., Gallaher.
Cornell freshman crew--Stroke, Eilms; 7, O'Brien; 6, Butts; 5, Kraft; 4, Craver; 3, Pollard; 2, Hiscox; bow, Ornelas; cox., Adler
