FENCERS DEFEATED BY YALE

University Team Won Only Three Bouts Out of Possible Nine.

The University fencing team lost its tournament with Yale at New Haven, Saturday, six bouts to three. F. Ransom, the Yale captain, showed excellent form, winning all three of his bouts.

The best match of the evening was that in which he met M. M. Boyd '12, captain of the University team. When the period ended, each had scored 6 times and it was decided to fence an extra minute. In that time Ransom touched Boyd and won the bout. This was the only overtime match.

In the final bout, Chalmers of Yale and H. H. Loomis uC. dropped out so that O'Follon of Yale and F. R. Wulsin '13, the substitutes, could win their letters.

Summary of bouts:

First round--F. Ransom, Yale, defeated M. M. Boyd '12; H. Chalmers, Yale, defeated G. B. Wilbur '12; H. H. Loomis uC. defeated H. M. Rees, Yale.

Second round--H. Chalmers, Yale, defeated M. M. Boyd '12; G. B. Wilbur '12 defeated H. M. Rees, Yale; F. Ranson, Yale, defeated H. H. Loomis uC.

Third round--M. M. Boyd '12 defeated H. M. Rees, Yale; F. Ransom, Yale, defeated G. B. Wilbur '12; O'Follen, Yale, defeated F. R. Wulsin '13.

The judges were Breed, national foil champion, G. C. Hass, Yale '08, and Pitt, captain of the 1911 Columbia team.
