A class in general athletics for Freshmen who are not candidates for any of the various teams will be started shortly after the Christmas recess. It will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 4.30 o'clock for about three months during the winter term. Instruction will be given in running, boxing, wrestling, fencing, and, if possible, in swimming. Mr. W. F. Garcelon L. '95, of the Athletic Association, and P. Withington '09 will have a general supervision over the work, conducting some of it personally. The rest will be under the direction of the various instructors at the Gymnasium. The class is intended primarily for beginners and those who have had but little training in athetics, its object being to promote all around physical development, rather than to prepare for any particular sport.
The class has been steadily growing in popularity since its founding in 1909. In that year, it had only 7 members. These increased in 1910 to 37 and last year numbered 60. It is hoped that the present season will see an even greater increase than hitherto.
Those intending to join the class should send at once a postal card to the Graduate Treasurer, Harvard Athletic Association, Cambridge, giving their name and address.
