HARVARD'S DAY

ONLY ONCE DID PRINCETON 1916 BECOME DANGEROUS IN 14 TO 0 GAME.

The Princeton Freshman game played on Soldiers Field Saturday resulted in a 14 to 0 victory for Harvard 1916. The play was almost entirely in Princeton territory and only once, at the end of the third period, was the Harvard goal in danger. The Freshman team was well-balanced, the backs making gains at will both through and around the opposing line, while a firm defence made line-rushing unprofitable for Princeton. Three attempts at field-goals by Mahan failed when the ball was carried wide by the wind. There was occasional fumbling by both teams.

Freshmen Score Twice in First Half.

All of the scoring was done in the first half. The first touchdown, by a forward pass across the line to Lyman, came after a 20-yard run by Miller and a 10-yard gain by Cartmell. After the goal by Gilman, Princeton kicked off to Rollins on his 20-yard line and he ran it back 40 yards to Princeton's 40-yard line. The last play of the quarter was a 15-yard run by Mahan, placing the ball on the visitors' 25-yard line.

At the beginning of the second quarter two line gains and a forward pass, Mahan to Rollins, enabled McKinlock to take the ball across for the second touchdown. Gilman again kicked the goal.

In the third quarter the ball was kept well within Princeton territory until the last minutes of play when a series of line-rushes and a forward pass brought the ball dangerously near Harvard's goal. Failure to rush the ball across the line gave the ball to Harvard, however, and at the beginning of the last quarter Mahan punted it over the heads of the Princeton backs. This quarter was without other large gains by either team.
