Comment by Mr. Percy Mackaye.
"The Voice of the People" is a three-act play by David Carb '09. Percy Mackaye '97 comments on the club's selection as follows:
"The Harvard Dramatic Club is fortunate in the choice of its three-act play for this year. "The Voice of the People', by Mr. David Carb, is a play significant in several vital respects. It is significant, first of all, in its theme: a large, contemporary issue of American life, grappled with power and thoughtfulness. In dealing with his theme, moreover, Mr. Carb gives no sense of peering at life from behind college walls--a characteristic common to most college plays. In stead, he tackles life at first hand, out of the urgency of expression. Yet his skilful way of doing so--his dramatic technique--is a direct result of training behind college walls, for Mr. Carb is a graduate of the Club itself and of Professor Baker's technical courses. In this respect his work is significant as a real contribution to Harvard's output in an important national field. Properly interpreted, it can hardly fail to distinguish itself on the contemporary stage in America."
The production will be presented in Brattle Hall on December 10 and 13, and in Jordan Hall on December 14. Tickets at $1.50 and $1 for the Cambridge performances may be obtained at the main store of the Co-operative Society and from H. S. Ballou, Jr., '15, Brentford 22.
