LECTURE ON LATIN AMERICA.

A lecture deserving of more than perfunctory notice is that to be given this evening by Dr. Manoel de Oliveira Lima. In these days when the opening of the Panama Canal is forcing upon us the increasing international significance of the Monroe Doctrine, the subject of South American development is coming to be one of far more than mere curious interest. We of the North cannot understandingly handle the growing commercial and intellectual intercourse we are bound to have with our neighbors south of the Gulf, unless we understand those neighbors themselves and the recent development of their lands. In view of this, it is no slight privilege to hear so distinguished a son of Latin America as the Brazilian Minister present the subject to us in our own tongue. The interest in his address should be wide-spread.
