The first of a series of eight concerts will be given by the Boston Symphony Orchestra this evening in Sanders Theatre at 8 o'clock. Dr. Carl Muck, who conducted the orchestra during the seasons of 1906-07 and 1907-08, has again been secured since the completion of his engagement with the Royal Opera, Berlin, and will be the conductor throughout the coming winter.
Several changes have been made in the personnel of the orchestra since last season. The assisting solo artists will be Miss Florence Hinckle, soprano; Mr. Leopold Godowsky, pianist; Miss Elena Gerhardt, soprano; Miss Gertrude Marshall, violinist; Mrs. Truman Aldrich, pianist; Mr. Norman Wilks, pianist; Miss Vera Barstow, violinist.
The following is the program for this evening: Beethoven, Symphony No. 3, in E-flat major; "Eroica," op. 55; Berlioz, Overture, "Le Carnaval Romain"; Liszt, "Mazeppa," Symphonic Poem No. 6 (after Victor Hugo); Wagner, Prelude to "Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg.
