The Freshman hockey team held practice in the Stadium rink yesterday afternoon. The greater part of the time was spent in drilling the forwards against the defence. The first team, of which the line-up has not yet been definitely chosen, did not practice with the rest of the squad until the last few minutes, when a scrimmage was held against the substitutes. The regulars played well together and were able to defeat their opponents by the score of 2 to 1.
Although several meetings of the Freshman hockey candidates were held before the Christmas recess, no actual practice took place until January 4, 1912, when over 50 men reported to Coach Pratt. As this was more than could work easily together, the candidates were divided into two squads, which practiced separately. This greatly facilitated the selection of a final squad, which since then has held practice every day that the ice has been good. The development of the team has been gradual. Team-play among the forwards has been slow to appear, and has only been prominent to any marked degree within the last week. The defence, however, started to develop somewhat earlier in the season, and has been doing well since then.
