PRESIDENT'S NEW RESIDENCE

Larger House to be Erected on Quincy Street.--Plans by G. Lowell '92.

In the course of the next few weeks ground will be broken for a new residence which President Lowell is planning to build just north of the present house on Quincy street. In order to build at this point, however, it has been found necessary to move the adjoining residence, occupied since the death of Dean Shaler by Dean Fenn. This house will be divided into four sections, and moved down Quincy street and rebuilt in Divinity Field. The building of the new house will in no way require the removal of the President's residence. He will continue in the present house and will move into the new house when it is finished.

The plans as drawn by G. Lowell '92, also the architect of Emerson Hall and the New Lecture Hall, provide for a three-story dwelling of the Colonial style of architecture. One wing extending to the north will contain a large room where receptions can be held. The plans have been submitted and approved, and it is expected that work will be begun as soon as Dean Fenn's house can be moved.
