The Freshman baseball team played a tie game with the Yale freshmen yesterday afternoon on Soldiers Field, the score being 1 to 1 at the end of the thirteenth inning when the game was called. The contest was the most exciting seen in Cambridge for a long time. It was a pitcher's battle throughout, Brown doing the heaviest part of the work for Yale, and Boyle and Waterman sharing the honors for Harvard.
Yale scored in the first inning when Burdette drove the ball to right field along the foul-line for a home run. In the ninth inning with two down Wingate singled and stole second. Brown was getting somewhat nervous and passed Harvey. Reynolds with two strikes against him singled and Wingate scored. Clark flied out ending the chances of a win for the Freshmen.
Waterman entered the box for Harvard and held the visitors down equally well with Boyle. In the twelfth inning Curtis singled and stole second for Harvard after two were down, but Milholland was an easy out. In the last period Perkins drew a pass, reached second on a passed ball, and was sacrificed to third. Wingate, however, grounded out to Riddell, and the umpire called the game because of darkness. Burdette's home run and Reynolds's hitting were the features. The summary: Two-base hit--Reynolds. Home run--Burdette. Sacrifice hits -- Wingate, Chauncey. Stolen bases--Brown, Wingate, Curtis. Bases on balls--Off Brown 2, off Gile 1. Struck out--By Boyle 6, by Waterman 2, by Brown 13, by Gile 1. Passed ball--Burdette. Umpires--McLaughlin, Burley. Time--2 hr., 40 min. *Batted for Boyle in ninth inning.
