HARVARD, 4; PENNSYLVANIA, 1

Fish and Byng, Eligible Under New Rule, Strengthened Soccer Team.

The University association football team defeated Pennsylvania on Soldiers Field Saturday afternoon by the score of 4 to 1.

The absence of Seamans, who has blood-poisoning, and Cushing, who has water on the knee, weakened the University line-up, but the presence of Fish and Byng caused a noticeable improvement over the playing in the Haverford game a week ago. A new ruling by which any man in the University who obtains the permission of the dean of his department may play on the association football team, makes Fish and Byng eligible. The forward line showed a great improvement, and their team-play in the first half was the best seen this season, Winston and Needham playing a particularly fast game. In the back field Barron and Chadwick were very effective. For Pennsylvania Jordan easily excelled in shooting and in ability to carry the ball.

During the first half the play was well within Pennsylvania's territory, and only once, a few minutes before time was called, was Harvard's goal seriously threatened. The first score of the game was made after 10 minutes of play by Greene on a pass from Needham. Needham made the next two goals from scrimmage, and Byng scored the fourth on a drive from the side-lines.

Pennsylvania showed much better team-play in the second half and the University team was unable to score. Fish went up to the forward line, changing places with Hallowell. After 39 minutes of play Thomson scored for Pennsylvania on a free kick. Three times during this half goals were prevented only by the splendid stops of Chadwick at goal.
