Major Charles De Lano Hine, special representative of the Harriman lines, will speak on "The Unit System of Railroad Operating Organization" in Emerson H this afternoon at 2.30 o'clock. The lecture will be given in connection with the course on railroad operation in the Business School but will be open to all members of the University.
In 1895 Major Hine began his railway career as a freight brakeman, and soon worked his way up to the top of his profession, serving successively as switchman, yardmaster, conductor, chief clerk, trainmaster, assistant superintendent and, finally, superintendent. He was employed on several occasions by the Interstate Commerce Commission, and is the originator of a unit system of organization for corporations which is being installed on the Harriman and several other lines.
