The Freshman hockey team defeated Rindge Manual training School in the first scheduled game of the season, at Brae Burn, on Saturday, by the score of 5 to 3. The soft ice tended to make the game slow, and handicapped the forwards in their attempt to pass.
In the first half Rindge's forwards displayed considerable individual brilliancy, several times carrying the puck into Harvard's territory, only to be checked by Willetts or Carnochan. In this period Fritz scored for Rindge, while Williams and Sortwell made a goal each for the Freshmen.
In the second half the Rindge players tired, while frequent substitutions did not seem to weaken the attack of the Freshmen. Williams played an especially strong game for Harvard, making two more goals in this half. Devereux also scored, and Fritz and Jefferson each made a goal for Rindge.
The summary: Score--Harvard 1914, 5; Rindge, 3. Goals--Williams 3, Sortwell, Devereux, Fritz 2, Jefferson. Referee--F. H. Palmer '13. Time--20 minute periods. Seven Men on Training Table The training table for the freshman hockey team will start at 34 Dunster street at luncheon today at 1 o'clock. The following seven men will report: G. M. Carnochan, S. T. Hopkins, A. F. Sortwell, W. A. Willetts, W. L. Williams, D. J. P. Wingate, E. H. Woods.
