It seems most fitting that the custom of holding a special commemorative service upon the anniversary of the dedication of Brooks House has been resumed this year. The keen interest that Phillips Brooks took in the welfare of Harvard and in the individual career of each man whom he came to know is attested by the records of the time and by those who were fortunate enough to be his friends.
Brooks House is an institution which has the approval of nearly all men in the University and the active support of a very considerable number. It is most appropriate that once a year at least the men not directly connected with the work should have the opportunity to show their interest by joining with those who are constantly endeavoring to make Brooks House a live centre for religious and philanthropic activity. It is particularly fortunate that the service tonight can be a tribute to such a worthy leader as Phillips Brooks.
