The University lacrosse team defeated Columbia on the latter's grounds at New York Saturday by the score of 4 to 2. The game was close and hard fought but on account of the soft and muddy field was not very well played. Harvard won the game by superior team-work and by more accurate shooting. On account of the poor condition of the field, the game depended mainly on shooting; and it was in this that Columbia was especially weak. J. P. Morgan, Smith, and Gustafson all played well for the University team.
The line-up and summary follow: Score--Harvard, 4; Columbia, 2. Goals--Gustafson, Show, Smith, J. P. Morgan, Cutler, Swallow. Referee--Cyrus Miller, Crescent A. C. Halves--25 minutes.
