In the first game of the season the University association football team was defeated by the Howard and Bullough Club at Pawtucket, Saturday afternoon, by the score of 5 to 3. The superiority of the Pawtucket offence was apparent throughout, the ball being in Harvard's territory most of the time.
The University team's first goal was made early in the game by Chadwick after a pass from Leland. In the second half Chadwick and Mears each scored a goal, but meanwhile Pawtucket had succeeded in scoring five times.
The work of Leland and Chadwick was excellent. Morris and Cushing, two new men, showed great promise.
