Spring Football Practice Yesterday

Only 33 men reported to Captain Withington on Soldiers field yesterday for the first spring football practice of the season, which is a very poor showing compared with 54 last year. All intending to be candidates for the football team next fall should come out unless they are on the first or second University or Freshman squads in baseball, track, or crew.

The practice was light, consisting of punting, starting, blocking and breaking through, and also ten minutes work at tackling the dummy. H. F. Corbett '11 coached the quarterbacks and halfbacks, H. B. Sprague '11 the punters and centres, and Withington the linemen.

The following men reported:

Ends.--P. M. Broomfield '13, C. Hann '11, R. Murdock '11.

Guards.--W. K. Blodgett '11, J. J. McGuire '11, V. Morris '12, R. T. Paessler '12, A. E. Stowe '12.

Need of More Football Candidates.

Considering the importance of spring practice this year on account of the changes in the rules and the uncertainties of many of these changes the showing at the first practice yesterday was remarkably poor. There is no reason why from 70 to 100 men should not be on the field daily, for the work lasts but little over an hour and could not interfere seriously with studies even of the men on probation. Men of last year's Freshman squad and second team candidates are especially urged to come out.

The main object of spring practice is to give the coaches a chance to sort out and become acquainted with the inexperienced material; hence it is especially important that these men should attend faithfully. It is possible that exhibition practices will be held, in which case a thorough comprehension of the rules will be necessary.

Football clothes will be furnished at the locker Building.
