The second trials for candidates for the University debating teams which will meet Yale and Princeton in the triangular debate on March 21 will be held in Harvard 5 this evening at 7.30 o'clock. The 20 men retained from the first trial on Tuesday will deliver ten-minute speeches on either side of the question, "Resolved, That the federal government should have power to impose an income tax not apportioned among the states according to population." Books on the subject are reserved in the Library.
Twelve men will be retained for the final trials to be held next Monday, at which the two University teams, consisting of three men each, will be chosen. The remaining six will form the University second teams. At the final trials competitors will again deliver ten-minute speeches, six speaking on each side of the question, the order of speaking to be determined by lot. Rebuttal speeches will also be required, these to be based on suggestions given by the judges.
The judges this evening will be S. Curtis '05, A. H. Elder '07, R. W. Kelse '04, E. R. Lewis '08, and A. P. Stone '93.
