Arthur Gilman h.'04, widely known as an author, and as the founder of the Harvard Annex now Radcliffe College, died Tuesday, December 28, at Atlantic City, N. J. He was in his seventy-third year.
In 1879 Mr. Gilman communicated his plan for the instruction of women to President Eliot and members of the Faculty. The outcome was the Harvard Annex, of which Mr. Gilman was secretary. After the incorporation as Radcliffe, he became regent. In 1886 he established the Cambridge School for girls.
Mr. Gilman was the author of a number of historical works and a members of many honorary societies.
