The Freshman hockey team lost the first game of its regular schedule to the Rindge Manual Training School Saturday afternoon by the score of 3 to 1. In its attack, the Freshman team was weak, reckless passing and inaccurate shooting losing several opportunities for them to score. Defensively the work of the team was of a higher order, but it was not strong enough to break up the more concerted attack of the visitors.
During the first half the play was largely in the Rindge territory, but lack of individual ability as well as of team play prevented their scoring. Fritz succeeded in scoring one goal for Rindge late in the half on a pass from Green.
In the second half 1913 again played in a mediocre fashion. The individual work of the Freshmen was slightly improved, Booth being able to shoot one goal from a scrimmage in front of the Rindge goal. Fritz obtained another goal, and Green succeeded in scoring after rushing the puck the length of the rink.
For the Freshmen Booth did the most consistent work, while Anderson and Fritz played well for Rindge.
The summary: Score--Harvard Freshmen 1, Rindge Manual Training School 3. Goals--Booth, Fritz 2, Green. Referee--Skilton, Crescents. Timekeeper--Merrill, Dartmouth. Time--15-minute halves.
