LACROSSE TEAM DEFEATED

Ithaca, N. Y., May 10, 1909.--The University lacrosse team was defeated this afternoon by Cornell by the score of 8 to 2. The game was played in the rain on a muddy field which greatly handicapped the players. Walbridge of Cornell scored the first goal after six minutes of play. In the first half the play was largely in Harvard's territory and the half ended with the score 4 to 0. It was only because of the University team's good defence that the score was not larger.

Because of the defeat today the University team is tied with Columbia and Cornell for the championship. It will, however, retain the cup won last year by an agreement that in case of a tie the team holding it the previous year should retain possession of it. The summary: HARVARD.  CORNELL.
