Regular spring work for all candidates for the University and Freshman track teams will begin today on Soldiers Field, and all men are expected to report regardless of weather. Every effort has been made during the past week to get the Stadium track into good condition; the straightaway is now in very fair shape, but the jumping pits are still a little heavy.
For the present, men may work in the morning from 10.30 to 1 o'clock and from 2.30 to 5.30 o'clock in the afternoon. Both University and Freshman candidates for the track events should report to Coach Donovan at the following times: hurdlers, 3; sprinters, 3.30; distance runners, 4. Field candidates should report to Coach Quinn at the following times: pole-vaulters and broad-jumpers, 3; shot-putters and high-jumpers, 3.45; hammer-throwers, 4.15. Men are especially urged to keep the appointments assigned above, if possible.
More material is needed for the Freshman team in the hammer-throw and shot-put particularly. It is absolutely necessary for men who intend to come out for these events to begin practice at once. This year there will be the usual practice handicap shot-put and hammer-throw contests open to all candidates; the dates will be assigned later by Coach Quinn.
Strict training will be required from now on in preparation for the handicap games, which will be held on April 16. Training for the University team will continue through the spring vacation at Exeter, N. H., in preparation for the dual meets with Dartmouth and Yale on May 8 and May 16 respectively, and for the intercollegiate meet, which will be held this year in the Stadium.
