ABBOTT LAWRENCE LOWELL.

The task on which President Lowell officially enters today is to be of vital interest to Harvard, and through Harvard to the educational world. American colleges and universities are in the swing of a great movement which is bringing them increase in numbers, in wealth, and in power. It is given to the president of this University to be one of those who direct this movement, and to guide it wisely is a work than which none is more important.
