The Pi Eta Society will present as their annual play this year "The Title Seekers," a musical comedy in two acts. The book and lyrics are by R. D. Murphy '08, and the music is by R. J. DeGolyer '08, and others.
The setting for the first act is in a Swiss village. The story is of a pretty New York heiress, whose father is determined that she shall marry a title. Marjorie Grumble is engaged to Philip Hathaway, a college man; but old Mr. Grumble objects very seriously to the match because he wishes his daughter to marry a man with a title. He accordingly whisks her off to Europe, with her Aunt Maria and a colored maid. They are followed by Hathaway and two of his college friends, Billie Burt and Bertie Bill, disguised as wandering minstrels. Hathaway and his friends follow the Grumbles to the little Swiss inn, and succeed in getting in the hotel. They are recognized by Mr. Grumble, however, and the Grumbles leave for parts unknown.
The scene of the second act is laid in Paris. Mr. Grumble is busily engaged in the pursuit of an impecunious French nobleman, Count de Castleless, when Hathaway arrives. Disguising himself as the Count, Philip manages to get an interview with Marjorie. On the same day he receives a message that his uncle in England has died and left him his title and fortune, being without a direct heir.
The cast has not yet been fully selected, but R. D. Murphy '08, H. L. Murphy '08, and L. M. Potter '08 will have the principal roles. N. H. White '95, of Brookline, is coach, and the assistant coach is E. H. Baker, Jr., '06, of Cambridge. Mr. J. A. Reynolds, of Boston, will have charge of the dancing; and C. E. Nichols '07 is manager.
