SWIMMING TEAM BEAT BROWN

Brown Won Polo, 9 to 0.--Lack of Practice Evident.--Tank Records Broken.

Providence, R. I., February 13, 1908.--The University swimming team defeated Brown in the dual meet here this evening by the score of 28 1-2 to 24 1-2. In the three events which Harvard won, the 50-yard dash, the 100-yard dash, and the relay race, the records standing for that tank were broken.

Through the lack of practice of the University team, the water polo game was won easily by Brown with a score of 9 goals to 0, five of which were made in the first half. The same lack of practice was evident in the plunge for distance, in which D. B. Hill '08 obtained second place, and in fancy diving in which he took third place. The relay race, however, was easily won by Harvard.

The summary:

50-yard dash--Won by M. C. Pierce '10; second, Baume, Brown; third, Chase, Brown. Time--29 1-5s.

100-yard dash--Won by P. Withington '09; second, R. F. Hoyt '10; third, Smith, Brown. Time 1m., 5 1-5s.
