In the graded crew races yesterday afternoon, Weld easily won from Newell. Neither crew had the advantage at the start, but half way to the Harvard bridge, Weld led by a length of open water. Just before reaching the bridge, Newell spurted, but Martin also raised his stroke, and prevented Newell from gaining. At Harvard bridge, Weld led by two lengths, and continued to increase this lead, finishing three and one half lengths of open water ahead of Newell.
The order of the crews was as follows:
Weld--Stroke, Martin; 7, Weston; 6, Maxwell; 5, Platt; 4, Haines; 3, Howe; 2, Robins; bow, Wiggins; cox., Faxon.
Newell--Stroke, Newton; 7, Coe; 6, Hill; 5, Wood; 4, Frye; 3, Metcalf; 2, Morgan; bow, Williams; cox., Cox:
Mr. Frank Lock of New York will deliver a lecture this evening on "The Relation of Insurance to State Authority and to the Public" in Sever 11 at 8 o'clock. Mr. Lock will describe the attitude with which the state authorities regard insurance companies, and their relations with the state.
