Fall Chess Tournament Begins

Today the fall chess tournament will begin, to pick the team of 10 men to play Yale on November 20 at New Haven. Only 40 men have entered, and although this is a smaller number than usual, the material is better. The candidates will be divided into sections of six men, and a round robin tournament will be played in each, the two best men being retained for the semi-finals. The competition will continue for two weeks in the club's new room at Grays 20. The ten best men in the semi-finals will make up the team. The team defeated Yale last year by a score of 6 to 4, this being the fifth consecutive year Harvard has won. Two teams of five men each will also be entered in a tournament with the Metropolitan Chess League. Medals will be awarded members of the three teams, from a fund established by H. C. White '02. The following members of last year's team are candidates: E. R. Brown, J. L. Clark, D. B. Childs, M. A. Driscoll. E. H. Gruening, K. S. Johnson, W. W. Parshley.
