The Freshman basketball team was defeated by Yale 1911 in a well played game at Mechanics Hall last evening by a score of 20 to 18. In team play and passing the Freshmen were clearly superior to their opponents, but were inexcusably weak in shooting.
In the first half Wellmann scored six points for his team by well placed goals from the floor, and Dow shot two goals from fouls. The Harvard team failed to cover well in this period and Yale scored 12 points on six successive goals from the floor. The period ended with the score: Yale, 12; Harvard, 8. In the second half the Harvard team did a little shooting and made ten points by four goals from the floor and two additional goals from fouls. Yale scored eight additional points on goals from the floor by Strowbridge and Thomas, and two goals from fouls. Wellmann played a good game for the Freshmen, and Haines and Thomas did the best playing for Yale.
