To the Editors of the CRIMSON:
During the past two weeks, there has been considerable discussion relative to the attitude taken by the Juniors toward the 1909 Union dance, and the apparent "lack of class spirit" has been freely criticised.
May I suggest that it is a very great error to confound the terms "Union Dance" and "Class Dance." To my mind, the dance under discussion, although limited to members of the class of 1909, is nevertheless a Union affair, inasmuch as Juniors who do not belong to the Union are debarred.
Under these circumstances, it would seem unfair to the many men who are not Union members to argue "lack of class spirit," for it is safe to say that of these latter, few care to add an item of ten dollars to the necessary expenses of attending, the dance, even though they are willing to be identified with "the representative Harvard Club."
