At a recent meeting of the Corporation, J. D. M. Ford '94 was appointed Smith Professor of the French and Spanish Languages from September 1, 1907, Professor Ford was an instructor in French from 1895 to 1901, instructor in Romance Languages for 1901-02, and assistant professor of Romance Languages from 1902-07. Last year the literary side of the Smith Professorship was divorced from the Romance and Professor Bliss Perry was appointed professor of English Literature on the literary side.
Other appointments were made as follows: Charles Palache, assistant professor of Mineralogy for five years from September 1, 1907; W. R. Spalding '87, assistant professor of Music for five years from September 1, 1907; C. H. C. Wright '91, assistant professor of French for five years from September 1, 1907; W. R. Castle, Jr., '00, member of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences from May 1, 1907, and member of the Administrative Board of Harvard College from may 1, 1907, for the remainder of the current academic year; H. deW, Fuller '98, instructor in Comparative Literature from September 1, 1907; A. Pope '01, instructor in Fine Arts from September 1, 1907; E. A. Darling '90, title changed from Instructor in Hygiene to Instructor in Physiology; E. H. Wells '97, editor of the Quinquennial Catalogue from May 1, 1907.
