The Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America held its thirty-second annual convention at the Fifth Avenue Hotel, New York, on Saturday. J. J. Rowe '07 presided at the meeting.
The most important action was the decision to hold the annual field meet this year at Soldiers Field. The recommendation of the executive committee, that the meet should be held on the last Friday in May and the Saturday following, instead of the last Friday and Saturday in May, was passed, and as a result of this the meet this year will be held on May 31 and June 1.
The proposition that first year students be debarred from competition in the meet was defeated, owing to the adverse vote of the smaller colleges. It was decided that the executive committee by unanimous vote might reject the entry of any competitor in the meet and debar any competitor from competition.
On the recommendation of the executive committee, it was resolved that the referee should no longer have the power to decide the possession of the medal in the event of the failure of the contestants to agree, but that medals should be presented to each competitor trying.
An amendment to Rule IV of the rules relating to prizes was adopted, providing that all flags awarded by the I. C. A. A. A. A. shall bear the date of the year in which they were won, and the number of contestants winning or trying for the same.
Article IV of the Laws of Athletics was amended by adding thereto the following: "To the end that there be no unnecessary delay, each competitor shall take his trial or turn when called upon to do so by the field judge having charge of the contest, and if in the opinion of such field judge the competitor unreasonably delays to do so, such judge may at his discretion forfeit such trial and have the same tally against the competitor as one miss or failure."
It was voted to reinstate the University of Michigan, which had been dropped from the conference.
The convention elected the following officers for the ensuing year: president, J. J. Rowe '07; vice-presidents, T. W. Werthen, Dartmouth, and L. G. Hinman, Williams; secretary, G. Lunt, College of the City of New York; treasurer, E. C. Dwyer, Columbia; executive committee--C. Sumner, Yale; A. B. Walsh, Princeton; E. S. Marten, Pennsylvania: and F. C. Chapman, Cornell, W. G. Graves '06 was appointed manager for the meet and J. E. Sullivan, president of the A. A. U. referce.
